Fulton St. investigation
Police at the First Precinct are still questioning people and investigating potential suspects in the March 25 shooting at the corner of Fulton and Gold Sts. of a man walking from the Fulton St. subway station to his job at Harbor Café on Peck Slip.
The victim, Martin Sanchez, 44, a Mexican immigrant who lives with his wife and children in Brooklyn, walked away from a man who stopped him on Fulton St. at 4:25 p.m. and demanded money. When two other men appeared at the corner of Gold and Fulton Sts., Sanchez ran but one of the three fired a shot the hit him in the back. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
Deputy Inspector Michael Hurley, First Precinct commanding officer, said on April 27 that several people have been questioned but no one has been charged. The investigation is continuing, Hurley said.
Bus hits woman
A Gray Line bus making a turn from Worth St. onto Centre St. at about 11:30 p.m. Sat. April 23 struck and severely injured a woman while she was crossing Centre St., witnesses said.
The victim, Anita Kleinman, a resident of Douglaston, Queens, had come to Manhattan to visit friends, Aura and Myron Gelberg, at Chatham Towers, for a Passover Seder, Myron Gelberg, said. The rear of the bus struck her as the vehicle made a turn onto Centre St., witnesses said
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition with two broken legs. The driver was held for questioning but was not arrested. There was no apparent criminal action involved.
