As the schedule for the World Trade Center rebuilding publicly fell apart, and Downtown Express and other papers reported that completion dates could be decades away, the Port Authority released an optimistic report saying it met nearly all of its nine construction goals for the first quarter of 2009.
The Port’s quarterly report shows progress on the PATH hub steel, the new top-down design of Greenwich St. and the design for the memorial, among other projects. The Port was three weeks late in completing footings for the PATH hub, but that work, too, was done by the time the report came out on Monday.
The Port still has not met one of its goals from the fourth quarter of last year, which was to turn over the prepared sites for Towers 2, 3 and 4 to Silverstein Properties, which is building the towers. The site for Tower 4 is done, while the other sites “will be turned over in a matter of months,” the report says.
The Port set 20 milestones for the second quarter of 2009, which is already more than one-third over.
