On Sunday, Downtowners and other citizens will be able to sign one of the first steel beams for what is expected to be the world’s tallest building. At least one beam to build the 1,776-foot Freedom Tower at the World Trade Center site will be outside 200 North End Ave. for public signings from noon to 3 p.m. on Dec. 17. Relatives of victims of the 9/11 attack and first responders will be signing a beam at the Battery Park City location from 10 a.m. to noon.
Foundation work on the tower began earlier this year and the beam work on the site will begin next week. The building is scheduled to be done at the end of 2011.
