Members of the public will be able to review and comment on the content of a proposed museum for the new World Trade Center.
The International Freedom Center, a museum created for the cultural center at the new W.T.C., was asked last month to submit a detailed plan of its proposed content to the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the agency overseeing the redevelopment. The request was a response to a call from Governor George Pataki for “an absolute guarantee” that the arts organizations at the W.T.C. have “total respect for the sanctity of the site.”
The I.F.C. will present their submission to the L.M.D.C. Families Advisory Council, Community Board 1 and a New York New Visions Forum and Workshop next week. Feedback and comments will be gathered from these meetings and from a public comment forum on the L.M.D.C. Web site, www.renewnyc.com.
The C.B. 1 meeting, which is open to the public, will be held on Wed., Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. at P.S. 234, on Greenwich and Warren Sts.
“We’ve asked the I.F.C. to present its submission in this way so as to ensure that the L.M.D.C. can make a decision that is informed by public input,” said L.M.D.C. President Stefan Pryor in a statement. “Any judgments that are made prior to the I.F.C.’s submission would be premature.”
Another museum planned for the Snohetta-designed cultural center, The Drawing Center, withdrew from the cultural center rather than submit its content to public and L.M.D.C. scrutiny. The Soho-based organization is now looking for an alternate site.
