After an eight-year hiatus, John R. Gambling, 58, returned to WOR radio in Lower Manhattan to host “The John Gambling Show” weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
On his first show on Monday, May 5, Gambling said he was glad to be back and referred to WABC, his previous station, as “the old place.” Topics of his morning news talk included rising gas prices and the Democratic primary.
Gambling left WOR in 2000 for a seven-year stint at WABC, where he interviewed Mayors Rudy Giuliani and Michael Bloomberg every week. Bloomberg will continue to visit Gambling in the WOR studio on 111 Broadway every Friday morning at 8 a.m. for a one-hour exchange with the listeners.
The Gambling family has been a mainstay at WOR since 1922 when Gambling’s grandfather, John B. Gambling, joined the station shortly after it signed on the air. Gambling’s father, John A. Gambling, hosted “Rambling with Gambling” until his son took over in 1990.
