Stadium plans on view at A.I.A.
On Mon., June 14, Jay Cross, president of the New York Jets, and Robert Boyle, chairperson of the New York Convention Center Operating Corporation, joined architects Bill Pedersen of Kohn Pedersen Fox and Sam Spata of HOK as they led a virtual tour of the planned West Side Convention Corridor via drawings and renderings at the Center for Architecture, 536 LaGuardia Pl. The public will have an opportunity to examine the architectural proposals for the New York Sports and Convention Center (a.k.a., West Side stadium) and the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center expansion using drawings and renderings included in the exhibition, which will be on view through Aug. 7. Visitors are encouraged to offer opinions on the design, with these comments becoming an interactive and evolving component of the exhibition. “Public input on the urban design, environmental, architectural and other attributes of the Convention Corridor is facilitated by putting the N.Y.S.C.C. and Javits Center models and drawings on view,” said Rick Bell, FAIA, executive director of AIA New York Chapter. The Center is located between Bleecker and W. Third Sts., and is open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Mon.-Fri., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Admission is free.
