Potential U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford, Jr., met with members of NARAL Pro-Choice New York at their Park Ave. South office on Feb. 2. Ford, who called himself “pro-life” while a Tennessee congressmember for 10 years, failed to win over the abortion rights group. He and NARAL reportedly didn’t agree on parental consent or partial-birth abortion, among other issues. Still, he called the meeting “positive.” Last month, NARAL issued a statement calling Ford “anti-choice.” Last June, NARAL endorsed incumbent Kirsten Gillibrand in a blow to Congressmember Carolyn Maloney, then mulling a challenge. Governor Paterson appointed Gillibrand to fill the seat after Hillary Clinton became secretary of state. Ford moved to New York after losing a Tennessee Senate race in 2006.
