Water Sounds…If dancing isn’t your thing, maybe watching others dance or listening to music is. River-to-River Festival kicks off Friday, May 30 at 7 p.m. on Pier 17, with a free concert by the British band Wire, best known as one of the premiere ‘70s punk/art school bands. Throughout June, July and August and into September, R2R events are scheduled along the Downtown waterfront. Sonic Youth performs July 4th. Go to www.rivertorivernyc.com/ for all times and listings.

Fulton Street Photos…Also Friday, May 30, experience the now long gone world of the Fulton Fish Market through the eyes of someone who logged many long nights befriending the men of this closed, nocturnal world. Long-time Seaport resident, photographer Barbara G. Mensch, reads from her book, “South Street,” in which she chronicles the rough times between 1979 and 1983, when politicians and developers began targeting the area for renewal and eventually brought a unique piece of New York City’s waterfront history to an end. Joining her will be Thomas Mellins, special projects curator for the Museum of The City of New York, who wrote the intro to her book. Her photos are on exhibit through mid-December. Welcome Waggin’…Sofia and Don Durante returned home from the Caribbean a week ago with a new member of the family. Boca – a year-old, caramel-colored canine mix – is taking to her new digs in the Seaport. The pup who only knew sandy beaches before this is fascinated by the multitude of street smells, towering buildings and all her new pals at the Fish Bridge Dog Run.

Downtown Dishes…We Down-towners all know we have of the best restaurants in New York City. With so many choices, here is your yearly chance to sample several at once. The Tenth Annual Dine Around Downtown takes over Chase Manhattan Plaza (between Liberty & Pine and Nassau & William) on Wednesday, May 22 (rain date: Thursday, May 23), 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with live entertainment and menu samplings ($3 to $6 each) from 50 of our finest Downtown dining spots, including Acqua at Peck Slip, Delmonico’s Restaurant and Waterstone Grill.

Favorite Watering Holes…While the past weekend was a washout for Friday night happy hour on historic Stone St., the weekend looked pretty happening, kicking off what will undoubtedly become again this season a hot spot for summer suds. And now with the weather warming up, expect the little cobbled courtyard alley that dates back to the 1600s and Dutch colonists to be clamoring with lunchers, brunchers, drinkers and diners. Starting with closing bell on Thursdays, Ulysses Folk House (No. 58) is the place to be if picking up a stockbroker rings your chimes. Wander into Brouwers (No. 45) for a brew and outstanding bar food or do a Swedish weekend brunch at Smorgas Chef (No. 53).
