Smoking a pipe and ‘laser light’ on Lower East Side

A man quietly puffing on his pipe and light effects viewed from Rivington and Norfolk Sts. looking toward Houston St. are some of the images one can capture in the predawn hours on the Lower East Side. The photographer achieved the “Star Wars”-like streaks in the photo below by “pulling the focal length on a telephoto lens during a long time exposure.”
