Two men ran from a Soho boutique with thousands of dollars of stolen goods in the middle of the day on Tuesday, police said. It is the second shoplifting incident for the boutique in the last month and one of many shoplifting incidents that have recently plagued high-end Soho stores.

According to a police spokesperson, two men entered the Barneys NY Co-Op store on 116 Wooster St. at about 2:10 p.m. on April 2, while the store was open for business. There were customers in the store at the time of the theft. One of the men distracted the sales associate while another grabbed several handbags and attempted to leave.

They may have been prevented because police reported that one of the thieves displayed “a dark object, simulating a weapon.”

They fled the store and got into a dark, four-door sedan. Police are investigating the incident.

The merchandise was reportedly worth “a few thousand dollars,” but no inventory of the stolen items was available. This is the second time that thieves have done a grab-and-go at the boutique recently. On Sun., March 10, police reported that a man entered Barneys and snatched two Alexander Wang handbags totaling $1,720 at 5:30 p.m. before fleeing in a white sedan with N.Y. plates.
