Spring Poems

By Mildred Cavallo

LOVESONG

You walk

on brittle leaves,

leaving no trace.

It is raining,

while spring screams

its arrival

and nature smiles.

You pass the naked

brook

near the willow

that hums

itself to sleep,

as you stop to

remember

your reason for being there.

I watched you

go,

but you did not hear

my silent cries.

I know I scratched

the surface of your

heart

and did not see your pain.

If I had known,

I would have

carried comfort

in the cups of

my hands

to mend your

bruised mind.

Now,

I hear you,

but cannot touch you.

I see you and

throw the crumbs.

That’s all that

I

can

do.

UNTITLED

Insects capture spring —

Dive bombing through red eyed clouds,

Humming drowsy tunes.

JOINING

I joined them in the Fall

and lusty winter —

and now

Spring gently takes my

hand to guide me back —

gliding me through the

raw green grass

sprinkled with

wild flowers and

virgin earth.

I smile,

listening to breeze — blown bushes

welcoming me

together —

the noisy world behind

me in total eclipse —

the new one

takes a deep breath

as we relax.

FOR N

All that I see around me mirrors you —

The swollen timid roses on the thorn.

That sway when Autumn winds are soft and new —

Or springtime when each gentle leaf is born.

I see you in a rainbow when the sun

Spurts rays upon the earth in colored tones.

I watch you as the day begins to run.

I touch you as the lazy lark — bird moans.

And in the night when darkness takes your hand

And leads you to a world of dreams and sleep,

I wander through the water and the sand,

And write your name upon the ocean deep.

Now on the moon kissed shore I stand and wait —

While love and dreamless gods decide my fate.
