Chefs will be racing for the title of New York’s finest Oyster Schucker on Sept. 28 at the Fifth Annual Stone Street Oyster Festival, an event honoring the local Blue Point Oyster harvest. The oyster shucking competition is one of the festival’s many highlights, as visitors can also enjoy a variety of oysters served on the street, sample oyster dishes at Harry’s Café and Steak at 1 Hanover Square and listen to live entertainment from bands such as Dan Donnelly, The Unity Squad and Chris Bryne’s Seanchai. Visitors can also purchase tickets to redeem plates of oysters and pints of stout.
Hosted by Ulysses’ pub and Harry’s Café and Steak, the festival is located on Stone St. in the Financial District, a block from Pearl St., which was named after the days when oyster shells paved the street. The festival is based off the yearly Galway International Oyster Festival in Ireland, which has attracted visitors since 1954.
The event starts at noon and will continue through the evening. For more information on the festival, call 212-482-0400 or visit www.ulyssesbar.com.
