Liam Kavanagh, 9, a fourth grader at P.S. 89, can’t wait to play kickball when he gets back to school.

Three students at the city’s first public school, P.S. 1 in Chinatown, enjoyed summer recess at Rockefeller Park. Left, Mabel Hui, 10, a fifth grader is looking forward to reading books in school. Christina Li, 8, center, a third grader, likes math and has a nice teacher. Her sister, Amanda Li, 10, said she is ready to start the fifth grade because “summer is really boring.”

We asked children playing in Washington Market and Rockefeller Parks where they will be going to school this year and what they are looking forward to.

Kiara Knox, 6, left, is going into first grade at P.S. 150 and is happy about just that. Daniel Mardkha, 3, goes to Park Preschool and likes his play group there.

Dylan Fuerst, 2 attends Park Preschool and likes playing with his friends.
