In recognition of Women’s History Month, the Tribute WTC Visitor Center will host a program on Tues., March 23 at 6 p.m. featuring Susan Hagen and Mary Corouba, authors of “Women at Ground Zero: Stories of Courage and Compassion.” The book is a collection of first-person stories told by 30 female firefighters, police officers, paramedics, E.M.T.’s, and others who responded to the World Trade Center tragedy on 9/11.
Hagen, a retired firefighter/E.M.T., and Corouba, a social worker, were bothered by the “invisibility of women at Ground Zero” and the media coverage that left “few role models for girls and young women who might be considering careers in public safety.” With that motivation in mind, the two women came to New York from their native California shortly after the attacks to seek out and interview female rescue workers.
The authors will also share updates about some of the women featured in their book.
This event at 120 Liberty St. is free and open to the public by reservation only. Contact rsvp@tributewtc.org to reserve a space.
