Teardrop Park, the last park that will be built in Battery Park City, will open Thursday afternoon, Sept. 30. The park, designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh, is based on the idea of Tim Carey who wanted to create a mini-version of the Catskills in New York City. Carey, the president of C.E.O. of the Battery Park City Authority, will be one of the speakers at an opening ceremony Sept. 30 at noon. After the ceremony, the park, located between Warren and Murray Sts., River Terrace and North End Ave., will open to the public. The park includes a pond with salamanders and snakes, a hill for young children to roll down, a slide into a sandpit and a reading area with rock seats. The reading circle will one day be used by visitors to a public library planned to be built across the street. The authority has three remaining undesignated sites and hopes to pick developers for each within the next year.
