DANCE

A PALO SECO

A veteran dancer with the Soledad Barrio and Noche Flamenca companies, Rebeca Tomás goes it alone in her solo debut. “A Palo Seco” is an evening of emotionally raw Flamenco music and dance — infused with an innovative and edgy New York feel.  Stretching the meaning of “solo” but giving you more bang for your buck, Tomás will be joined by dancers Sol “La Argentinita” and Laura Montes. The equally capable musicians are guitarist Pedro Cortés, bass player Sean Kupisz, violinist Alí Bello, percussionist Oscar Valero and singers David Castellano and Bárbara Martínez. May 14th through May 16th (Fri., Sat. at 8:00 p.m.; Sun. at 3:00 p.m.). At Theatre 80 St. Marks (80 St. Marks Place). For tickets ($20-$35), call 212-388-0388 or visit www.theatre80.org.

MOTHER’S DAY

Members of the Bond Street Euterpean Singing Society will perform 19th Century songs in honor of Mother’s Day in the Greek Revival double parlors of the Merchant’s House Museum. It’s part of the ongoing period music “Salon Music” series. May 9th, 5:30 p.m. at Merchant’s House Museum (29 East Fourth St. btw. Lafayette & Bowery). Tickets: $25 ($10 for museum members). Reservations required; call 212-777-1089 or visit merchantshouse.org/events.

PEN KNIFE

Sex, betrayal and art — Caborca Theatre promises to deliver all of that and more when you attend “Pen Knife.” It’s the story of poets Arthur Rimbaud & Paul Verlaine — two “French deviants who wrote like angels.”  Young, hot and horny Rimbaud lures the older, self-destructive Verlaine away from his pregnant wife. The two poets resolve to create art (and sex?) that no one has seen before; but living a life without limits soon swallows the both of them whole. May 6th through May 15th, 8:00 p.m., at The Living Theatre (21 Clinton St. btw. E. Houston & Stanton). For tickets ($18; $12 for seniors/students), call 800-838-3006 or visit www.brownpapertickets.com.

MIRACLE DAY

Tom Sime, a Writer in Residence at 45 Bleecker, penned this bittersweet comedy-drama about extreme happiness — and what comes after.  Successful young artist Matthew gets hooked on a new pill that, at first, gives his creativity and sex life a boost. Only after he introduces the miracle drug to his friends and fiancée does its buzz-killing side effects begin to make themselves known. How do you go back to the farm once you’ve touched the divine — and even if you can find a way back from Oz, is it a trip you want to take? Find out May 10th through June 15th (8:15 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays). At The Green Room at 45 Bleecker (45 Bleecker St.). For tickets ($21.50), call 212-239-6200 or visit www.Telecharge.com.
