The delegates will do Downtown

Republican National Convention delegates will be encouraged to visit Lower Manhattan sites and neighborhoods during their four-day stay, and may even get a batting lesson from one of Tribeca’s newest celebrities, Mike Piazza.

The New York Met is tentatively scheduled to take batting practice at Shea Stadium with delegates on Tues., Aug. 31, Sports and Parks Day. The NYC Host Committee announced on Thursday that there will be four themed days, encouraging delegates to explore many areas of the city.

Mon., Aug. 30 will be Fashion and Retail Day, including a “Greenwich Village and Soho Tour,” which, despite its name, will also take visitors to another “trendy” neighborhood, Tribeca. The “Global Village Tour” covers Chinatown, Little Italy and the Lower East Side.

Sept. 1 will be Music, Entertainment and Culture Day, including a cultural festival in Chinatown.

Before President George W. Bush is nominated on the last evening of the convention, Sept. 2 will be History Day with tours of Governors Island and Federal Hall— the Wall St. site where George Washington took the first presidential oath.
