Rocky road, chocolate mousse and the myriad other ice creams flavors don’t hold a lick to those at an ice cream shop that just possibly may have the most exotic flavors anywhere. At the Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory on Bayard St. between Mott St. and the Bowery, you can, of course, get your basic red bean and green tea ice cream. And for summery flavors there’s lychee, creamy mango and nippy ginger. Still not exotic enough for you? Well, where else will you find taro, durian (which smells like blue cheese), black sesame (which actually seems like poppy seed, and goes well with chocolate), avocado and the flavor of flavors (and flavor of the week), wasabi? That’s right, “horseradish” ice cream, and it beats the Garlic Festival’s garlic ice cream, a thousand times over.
