This Godzilla puts out fires

Saturday morning at 1:25 a.m. several fire trucks arrived in front of 121 St. Mark’s Pl., which has a bar on the ground floor, to investigate a possibly serious fire. The bar was evacuated. Dense smoke was found in the basement but the source was not immediately determined. After 15 to 20 minutes a smoldering mop was brought out to the street from the basement. Godzilla, the fire-breathing monster, at right, came along for the ride with an East Village engine company that was on the scene.
