“The poor dope — he always wanted a pool. Well, in the end, he got himself a pool,” William Holden narrates at the start of “Sunset Boulevard.” Well, now “Sunset Boulevard” will get a showing on top of a pool, or more accurately, on top of the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center.
Noir films are usually associated with dark themes and even darker, smoky, detective-filled dive bars, but for four weeks in July, they’ll be associated with a distinctively airier place: the roof of the Dapolito Center, at Carmine St. and Seventh Ave. South.
The center will be showing four classic noir films, one each on the first four Thursday nights in July, starting with “Mildred Pierce,” on July 1, and ending with “All About Eve,” on July 29. “Double Indemnity” and “Sunset Boulevard” will be shown on July 15 and July 22, respectively. The films start at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free, but RSVP’s are recommended.
