Transit Sam, Week of April 9, 2015

Thurs., April 9 – Wed.April 15
ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING WILL BE SUSPENDED THURSDAY, FRIDAY, AND SATURDAY
Orthodox holy week, and end of Passover parking break ahead! Get a good parking spot on Wed., April 8 and you won’t have to move your car for alternate side parking until Mon., April 13.

More good news: New York City public schools don’t get back from spring break until Monday, which means no school buses and a respite for parents and commuters alike in the morning.

The Tribeca Film Festival is back (coverage starts on p.24) The festival kicks off Wednesday, and while the real action doesn’t heat up until later in the week, stars, cinephiles, and paparazzi alike will be flocking to the festival and slowing down traffic.

Drivers should steer clear of Greenwich St. between Chambers and Hubert Sts. and Harrison St. between West and Hudson Sts. For Wednesday’s opening night festivities, Lower Manhattan hot spots to watch out for include theaters on North End Ave. between Vesey and Murray Sts., Chambers St. between West and Greenwich Sts., and Vesey St. between Liberty and West Sts.

Coming home late won’t be easy for Lower Manhattanites on Thursday. In the Lincoln Tunnel, the New York-bound south tube will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday. This closure will send inbound traffic south to the Holland Tunnel, where one New York-bound and one New Jersey-bound lane will be closed during the same time.

Over on the East River, all Manhattan-bound lanes of the Brooklyn Bridge will close 11 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday, and midnight Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, and 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Wednesday nights. As a result, expect extra traffic on the Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges, and on Canal and Delancey Sts.

The 25th Anniversary of Tribeca Grill celebration will close Franklin St. between Greenwich and Hudson Sts. 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

On West St./Route 9A, one southbound lane will close in each direction between West Thames and Vesey Sts. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

The Stone St. Pedestrian Mall will close Stone St. between Broad St. and Hanover Sq., and Mill Ln. between S. William and Stone Sts. 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day this week.
