ALTERNATE SIDE PARKING IS SUSPENDED WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY FOR IDUL-ADHA
At times Lower Manhattan seems like the epicenter of the world. Earlier this week Abu Anas al-Libi, the suspected al Qaeda terrorist, arrived in N.Y.C. On Tuesday the Federal Courthouse in Foley Square was ringed with security. Expect traffic on Centre St. to continue to be affected north of Chambers St.
Tough crossing at the Holland Tunnel Sunday and Monday! Jets and Giants fans heading to and from games 1 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 p.m. Monday will flood the Lincoln Tunnel, sending loads more drivers down to the Holland Tunnel. Seventh Ave. and Varick will get hit too.
Weekend tunnel slowdowns under the East River too: one tube of the Hugh L. Carey (Brooklyn Battery) Tunnel will close 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday. The remaining tube will carry one lane of traffic in each direction. Expect slowdowns on West St. and on the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. This closure will repeat for three weekends in November.
On the Brooklyn Bridge, all Manhattan-bound lanes will close 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Monday, and Tuesday nights, as well as midnight Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday, and midnight Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday. That means more drivers on the Manhattan Bridge and Delancey St., as well as in the Hugh L. Carey (Brooklyn Battery) Tunnel and on West St.
The Christopher Street Festival will close Christopher St. between Seventh and Greenwich Aves. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
Work on the Broadway reconstruction project is shifting north: barricades have been installed on the east side of Broadway between Wall and Pine Sts., including a tapered zone beginning at Liberty St.
On West St./Route 9A between West Thames and Chambers Sts., two northbound lanes will close 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.weeknights, and two southbound lanes will close midnight to 5 a.m. weeknights. Two lanes will close in each direction 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Franklin St. is fully closed between Hudson and Varick Sts. through the end of the month.

Dear Transit Sam,
On September 10, I parked my car at Greenwich St. and W 10th St. around 1 p.m. I checked around my car to make sure my tires were not touching the curb, and that I wasn’t close to any painted lines or sloped curbs for wheelchairs. Despite this, I returned to my car around 6 p.m. to a ticket on my car.
It read: “0 feet from hydrant.” I could not believe it. I looked around and found a newly erected fire hydrant surrounded by fresh black top.
There weren’t any signs indicating ongoing construction, although I saw a couple of scattered orange and white traffic barrels. After this incident, I made it my business to pass this location each day. I noticed that this hydrant is covered each day by an orange and white traffic barrel.
I think I have been had. I’m hoping you can help me straighten this out.

You’ve been scammed! Someone is saving a spot for themselves. Sometimes they use a garbage pail, sometimes a construction barrel. The culprit can be easily identified because he is probably parking there every day. Notify the precinct Transit Sam says this construction barrel was probably placed by a scammer looking to reserve a parking spot.which should be happy to remove the construction barrel and nab the offender. In case it was installed the day you parked call 311 and see if they can give you a date of installation. If that doesn’t get you off-the-hook let’s hope you get a judge who’s been scammed him or herself.
