While there was plenty of fanfare inside Madison Sq. Garden at the Republican National Convention, it was matched by the creative, sometimes controversial, signage and costumes dreamed up by the protesters outside. On this page are pictured a man with an oil rig, complete with President Bush with landing flashlights; a marcher with the War Resisters League who wore his “permit,” the Constitution of the United States, on his chest; a woman receiving one of the flags that draped the 1,000 coffins that were paraded in the United for Peace and Justice march on Aug. 29 — the flag was folded and solemnly presented in proper military fashion; and a woman hawking stickers equating Republicans with Nazis — these stickers and T-shirts have drawn complaints from more than a few people who think they are over the top.
