Three members of the New York Liberty, Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, and Betnijah Laney, were selected by USA Basketball’s Women’s National Team for training camp set for Feb. 2-4 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The 18-player roster will be whittled down to 12 following camp, where those selected will represent the United States at the 2024 FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament from Feb. 8-11 in Antwerp, Belgium.

The Americans have already qualified for the 2024 Olympics in Paris thanks to their 2023 FIBA World Cup title, but this is an opportunity to put in a good impression to make the squad for the Summer Games, which begin July 26.

Nigeria, Senegal, and Belgium have been drawn into the United States group.

Stewart took home her second career WNBA MVP trophy in 2023 — her first season with the Liberty after six seasons and two league titles with the Seattle Storm. She averaged 23 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game as the focal point of a team that made its first WNBA Finals in more than 20 years.

Ionescu continued cementing her place as one of the most lethal shooters in the WNBA, posting 17.4 points per game in her fourth pro season. She shot a career-best 44.8% from three-point range while her 128 threes led the league.

Laney, who was an All-Star three years ago, played in a career-high 40 games this season, averaging 12.8 points per game while posting a career-best 49.9% field-goal percentage.

“With less than 200 days until the 2024 Olympic Summer Games, we are excited to bring together a group of athletes who aspire to represent the United States not only in Antwerp but ultimately Paris,” Jennifer Rizzotti, USA Basketball Women’s National Team Committee chair, said. “Not only will the training camp be tremendously valuable but the qualifying tournament in Belgium will offer a meaningful opportunity to compete against world-class talent as we get one step closer to selecting the 2024 USA Women’s National Team.”
