Adam Fox is one of the most complete defensemen in the NHL to date. The former Norris Trophy winner has made a career out of being one of the smartest and most dominant d-men in hockey.

The 2022-23 NHL season has seen Fox continue his high level of dominance. Through 42 games, the former third-round pick out of Jericho has totaled 42 points with 34 assists. He’s fourth amongst all defensemen in points, and third in assists.

In Tuesday’s 4-3 shootout win over Minnesota, Fox was the best player on the ice totaling a goal and an assist to help the Rangers keep pace in a tight Metropolitan division. With a player like Fox on the team, it’s easy to get lost in just how good he actually is night in and night out.

“Adam’s such a special player. I get the pleasure of sitting on the bench and watching him do his thing. He does so many little things right for our team offensively and defensively.” K’Andre Miller said after Tuesday’s win.

Ranges’ head coach Gerard Gallant has repeatedly complimented his top defenseman’s skillset throughout the season as well. Playing on a team with Mika Zibaneajd and Atemi Panarin might lower player’s numbers at times, but Tuesday’s victory showed just how important the Ranger’s defensemen are to their offensive capabilities.

Down by 2-1 in the second period, Fox’s eighth goal of the season not only tied the contest going into the final period, but it set the stage for even large heights later. His 34th assist of the year later tied the game again and helped send New York into overtime.

“We were getting a lot of looks, and we got bodies to the net and somehow the puck found its way in there. I thought we were playing really well up to that point, and obviously, the shift had a lot of chances and looks and luckily we were able to finish one.” Fox later added.

As the season progresses, having one of the best players in the entire league on defense is a major edge that the Rangers have been able to use over the last couple of seasons. And wins like Tuesday night go a long way to showing just how good a player like Adam Fox really is.
