The Massachusetts-born Jack Leathersich was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. The 24-year-old reliever has been a dominant strikeout pitcher, fanning 347 in 204.1 innings (15.3 per nine). His issue always has been control — 4.8 walks per nine innings in his career. He’s seemingly worked on the issue with Triple-A Las Vegas this season, where he has 13 strikeouts and only two walks in seven innings. Should the Mets need reinforcements this season, these minor leaguers could be of value. Some of the players already have a spot on the Mets’ 40-man roster, meaning they only would need to replace a player currently in the majors on the Mets’ 25-man roster. For those players not yet on the team’s 40-man roster, they must take someone’s place on that list, too.
