It is no secret that New York Giants general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll have been keeping tabs on the quarterback pool ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.
The book is still out on Daniel Jones being the franchise quarterback with one year remaining before the Giants could potentially exercise the opt-out of his four-year, $160 million deal.
With the No. 6 pick in the draft, the option is very much there to take a passer, though the likes of Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels will almost definitely be off the board by the time they’re on the clock.
There is an obvious allure of taking a stud wide receiver like Washington’s Rome Odunze to give Jones a young, bona fide weapon to work with to ensure Jones is surrounded with the most talent possible.
Regardless, taking a quarterback could be a post-first-round option — a reality that is apparently being considered, at least.
Per NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport, the Giants have hosted Oregon’s Bo Nix and South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler on visits before the draft, which kicks off on April 25 in Detroit.
Rattler passed for 3,186 yards with 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season with the Gamecocks. He is projected to go in the third round.
Nix finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting last year, completing 77.4% of his passes for 4,508 yards, 45 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He will likely go in the second round where the Giants own the No. 47 pick.
The Giants had also hosted Michigan quarterback JJ McCarthy last month, though the national champion is expected to go in the top 10 next week. During the NFL Combine at the end of February, they held meetings with Williams and the Heisman Trophy-winning Daniels.
