As catastrophic flooding continues to devastate parts of Texas, communities across the country are stepping in to help.
The floods have already claimed at least 133 lives, with more than 100 people still missing. In response, a network of local and national organizations have launched emergency efforts to support survivors, fund relief operations, and help communities rebuild.
On the ground in Texas, several local charities have become critical lifelines for survivors. The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, managed by the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, is accepting donations to provide immediate assistance in one of the state’s hardest-hit regions; these funds are helping cover emergency housing, supplies, and support for displaced families.
The TEGNA Texas Flood Relief Fund, backed by local media partners, is channeling donations into direct relief for impacted communities. In a separate effort, the Austin Disaster Relief Network is coordinating volunteers and providing emergency shelter and supplies across Central Texas.
In San Antonio, the San Antonio Food Bank is ramping up operations to distribute meals, water, and necessities to those cut off by floodwaters.
New York groups join the effort
Miles away, New York organizations are also sending help. The Hearst Foundations have announced $1 million in grants, splitting the funds equally between the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund and The Salvation Army in San Antonio to bolster immediate relief and long-term recovery in flood-affected communities.
The New York City Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO, has launched fundraising initiatives to support Texas workers and families. The Council has also compiled resources and information for both union members and the general public looking to donate or get involved in relief efforts for the affected counties.
The New York State Police have provided direct assistance on the ground, deploying four staff members and three canine search teams to Kerr County for 14 days to support ongoing search efforts and assist local authorities with logistics and coordination.
In the culinary community, Chefs of the Hamptons is channeling upcoming fundraising events toward Texas relief efforts. Proceeds from its “Dan’s Taste Chefs of the Hamptons” event will be donated to support flood victims through The Salvation Army’s Texas Flood Relief Fund, helping to provide meals and other essential aid.
Further contributing to the response, the David and Nicole Tepper Foundation has pledged $100,000 to the Global Empowerment Mission to support relief efforts in Texas, contributing to frontline operations that assist affected communities.
A Nationwide Response to Texas’ Historic Floods
As search and rescue operations continue and thousands of Texans face the daunting road to recovery, the combined efforts of local charities and national partners are proving essential. From meals and shelter to grants and search teams, these organizations are working together to help rebuild the affected communities in Texas.
For those looking to help, many of these groups, including the TEGNA Texas Flood Relief Fund and other nonprofits, continue to accept donations online, ensuring aid reaches the communities most in need.
