Disney eyeing musical of ‘Hunchback of Notre Dame’
Disney Theatricals, which produced a stage adaptation of the animated musical “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” back in 1999 in Germany, is now looking to revise the piece, with the possibility of then producing it in New York or regional theaters. A developmental production will take place in January 2014 directed by Scott Schwartz. The original songs by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz will be joined by a new book by Peter Parnell.
‘A Doll’s House,’ Baryshnikov, Dafoe set for BAM in spring
Brooklyn Academy of Music unveiled its spring season this week. In addition to “King Lear” with Frank Langella, BAM will also present a production of Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” as well as Mikhail Baryshnikov and Willem Dafoe in “The Old Man”
Maddow to take part in reading of Laura Bush play
Rachel Maddow will join Denis O’Hare and Elizabeth Marvel in a reading of Tony Kushner’s controversial short play “Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy,” which depicts Laura Bush reading Dostoevsky to deceased Iraqi children, at Joe’s Pub on Sunday.
Off-Broadway ‘Fun Home’ receives second extension
While it is still unknown whether the acclaimed Jeanine Tesori-Lisa Kron musical “Fun Home,” which opened at the Public Theater last week, will make the move to Broadway, the Public has now extended its Off-Broadway run for the second time to Nov. 17.
