Harvey telethon to be headlined by Beyoncé, George Clooney, more

Some of the biggest names in Hollywood will come together to raise money for Harvey recovery during the Hand in Hand telethon Tuesday.

Set to air on several major television networks on Sept. 12, the Harvey benefit will feature appearances by George Clooney, Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé, Julia Roberts, Kelly Rowland, Adam Sandler, Blake Shelton, Reese Witherspoon, Barbara Streisand and more.

The one-hour special will be broadcasted live from Los Angeles at Universal Studios, but is also set to feature special performances from the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and Times Square. A finale performance by George Strait will take place in Texas, during the country singer’s Houston benefit concert at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio.

Proceeds from the telethon — which will urge viewers to donate to Houston recovery via text message or phone pledge — will benefit the United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, and other disaster reserve funds set up to help provide shelter and resources to the nearly one million Americans displaced by the storm, which left as many as 200,000 homes damaged.

The telethon helms from the organizer behind Ariana Grande’s One Love Manchester benefit concert, Scooter Braun, and rapper Bun B, a Houston native. Braun announced the event via Twitter Tuesday, writing it was “time to help.”

More than a dozen celebrities have already donated to Houston recovery efforts. Pledges spiked after comedian Kevin Hart set up a social media challenge Aug. 28, asking his fellow A-listers to pledge $25,000 or more. Among those who sent aid were Leonardo DiCaprio, who donated $1 million, and Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez who pledged $25,000 each.

It will air at 8 p.m. on ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and CMT, and be available for streaming via Facebook Live. For more information, visit handinhand2017.com.
