Meet my fiancee, Jessica Lowndes. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
They’re not really engaged, but Lowndes and comedian Jon Lovitz — who, as the “Saturday Night Live” character The Pathological Liar, famously claimed to be married to Morgan Fairchild — did engage in a publicity stunt that trended heavily on social media Monday.
Three days earlier, the 27-year-old singer-actress had posted an Instagram image of a man’s hand on a woman’s leg. “There’s a new man in my life…,” read a text graphic on the photo, which Lowndes captioned, “His hands are wise and tell a thousand stories… #smitten #hatersgonnahate.”
That same day she posted another oblique image and caption, followed by a short video clip in which she said, “No, I haven’t been hacked. I’m just really excited to finally be able to finally share this secret with you guys.” She captioned it, “Being happy never goes out of style.” Then on Saturday she posted a close-up of a woman’s hand with an engagement ring.
On Sunday came a clip of Lowndes in bed. “When bae films you waking up in the morning… #TooOldToUseHashtags #MrBig,” she wrote. A voice resembling that of Lovitz lies and says, “What? I’m not video-ing.”
Lovitz, 58, then tweeted a photo of the two of them, writing, “Easter with my bunny, Jessica Lowndes!!!♥️♥️♥️.” When someone commented, “Nice daughter,” Lovitz tweeted back, “Nice jealousy!”
Few on social media appeared to take the postings as other than a comedic bit. And indeed, Lowndes on Monday afternoon posted an explanatory clip. “I know it’s still the last week of March,” she says slyly, “but is it too early to say, ‘April Fools’?” We then see a laptop playing the music video for her song “Deja Vu (Remix),” co-starring Lovitz. A final post directs viewers to Vevo and iTunes, while Lovitz tweeted a direct Vevo link to the video.
