Kesha: Dr. Luke offered ‘my freedom’ if I recanted rape accusation

Singer Kesha, whom a court ruled must remain under contract to Dr. Luke’s label despite her accusing him of sexual and emotional abuse, posted a new claim on Instagram Sunday. “I got offered my freedom IF i were to lie. I would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that I never got raped. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.”

Dr. Luke later responded to the singer’s claim. “The court repeatedly stated Kesha is already free to record without Dr. Luke, and that she had not presented any facts supporting her claims,” a spokesman for the 43-year-old hitmaker, born Lukasz Gottwald, said in a statement to Newsday. “That’s because all the evidence — including Kesha’s own videotaped sworn testimony — show her allegations are false. The only thing Kesha is not free to do is to continue to lie about Dr. Luke through publicity stunts and outrageous smears,” adding that she continued to work with the producer for years after the alleged incidents.

“Her goal all along has been solely personal enrichment by seeking to break contracts that brought her success and millions so she can enter into more lucrative ones,” Dr. Luke’s spokesman said. “We look forward to our day in court holding Kesha accountable for her lies.”

On March 21, 29-year-old Kesha appealed a Feb. 19 New York Supreme Court decision that mandated the “Tik Tok” singer to record the remaining six albums on her contract with the Sony Music-owned Kemosabe Records, which Dr. Luke heads.

Dr. Luke, who has repeatedly denied the singer’s accusations, tweeted in February, “I didn’t rape Kesha and I have never had sex with her. Kesha and I were friends for many years and she was like my little sister.”

Fellow pop stars including Taylor Swift and Kelly Clarkson have spoken out on Kesha’s behalf.
