Well, that didn’t take long: Four months after the final season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” aired on Netflix, the network announced its fictional New Yorkers will return to the studio for an all-new special.

This time around, you’ll be in control of Kimberlake’s fate. The special will be the second interactive project to hit Netflix following its “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” episode, which drew mixed response from viewers.

The event will let fans control their favorite characters’ actions and arrive upon a variety of different endings. "Bandersnatch" had five main endings, and it’s not immediately clear how many are mapped out for "Kimmy Schmidt." Ellie Kemper (Kimmy), Tituss Burgess (Titus), Jane Krakowski (Jacqueline) and Carol Kane (Lillian) are all set to reprise their roles.

Series creator Tina Fey said in a statement: “We’re thrilled to announce that we’re about to start production on an all-new interactive ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ special, set to debut on Netflix in 2020. ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ was one of the first original comedy series on Netflix, and now it will be its first interactive comedy event. Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes.”

“Kimmy Schmidt” aired four seasons on Netflix and officially wrapped in January.

Chatter among the cast pointed to a possible film project to follow the finale, though, at the time, it had not been confirmed. This interactive special, Fey said, is “a great way to officially complete the series.”

Kane, in January, told amNewYork that the film’s script had been written, but that she was “being extra careful” not to confirm the news in the off chance it fell through.

“You know, I know they’re writing it. So, I should be saying it’s a definite, except I am a union member for 52 years, so I always try to remind myself to believe it when it’s really happening, instead of anticipating,” she said. “You know, life brings many changes. Sometimes things don’t happen.”

The series finale seemingly wrapped things up perfectly for our East Dogmouth residents: Titus got his big break, Kimm is a published and successful author, and Lillian is still fighting gentrification. But Kane said the ending was more accurately "the beginning of a new life" for the group.

Both Tina Fey and Robert Carlock are set to produce the project, due out next year.
