Lady Gaga will perform in a “multisensory” tribute to late music legend David Bowie during the Grammy Awards ceremony on Feb. 15, The Recording Academy announced Tuesday.
“We had already booked Lady Gaga on this year’s show, but when David passed . . . we knew we had to change direction,” executive producer Ken Ehrlich said in a statement. “We immediately spoke and agreed that she should be the one to honor David. She’s perfect for it.”
Music producer Nile Rodgers, whose history with Bowie began with the 1983 hit “Let’s Dance,” will be musical director for the tribute. “I reached out to Nile,” Ehrlich continued, “and, before long, we were on our way to creating what we believe will not only make a great Grammy moment, but one fitting of David.”
Gaga, 29, who is making her fourth appearance on the Grammy Awards telecast, is nominated with co-writer Diane Warren for best song written for visual media, for “Til It Happens to You” from the documentary “The Hunting Ground.”
Bowie died Jan. 10 at age 69, following a battle with cancer.
