Michael Rapaport talks ‘Hard Lovin’ Woman,’ about Juliette Lewis, and the Tribeca Film Festival

Michael Rapaport is better known for his acting roles (“True Romance,” “Copland,” Mighty Aphrodite”), but he’s also dabbled in directing. His documentary short about the actress and musician Juliette Lewis, “Hard Lovin’ Woman,” premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday.

We asked Rapaport about his hometown of NYC and the film fest that takes over every spring.

What does the Tribeca Film Festival mean to you?

I am a huge supporter of the Tribeca Film Festival. It is a great event where directors, producers, actors and personalities come together to celebrate great film and storytelling.

Has New York City inspired your work in any way?

As a native New Yorker, this city has played a huge role in shaping my career and who I am as a person. There are so many elements about the city that fuel my creativity, ideas and passions.

What’s your favorite restaurant in NYC?

My favorite restaurant has to be Bar Pitti [268 Avenue of the Americas].

Yellow cab, Uber or subway?

All three.

Why should Tribeca audiences see your film/project?

I am very passionate about “Hard Lovin’” that will be premiering at this year’s festival. The short film is a Red Bull TV original program about my good friend, Juliette Lewis, pursuing her passion for music. Throughout the film, viewers will get to witness the real Juliette Lewis: no make-up and raw.
