13-story apartment building ready to rise on Renwick St.

By Lori Haught

A new 13-story apartment building is under construction at 15 Renwick St. in Hudson Square.

The developer, THH Reality, was not ready to disclose information or an image of the completed project as of yet.

Department of Buildings records note 15 Renwick St. was a stable back in 1918. By 1919 it was a garage, stable and laboratory. The building was last used for food processing and storage, as a base for hot dog and souvlaki carts. An adjacent structure was used as a garage.

According to the Department of Finance ACRIS Web site, the building was purchased for $9,425,000 from the Interstate Casing Corp. on Dec. 28, 2005. Westernbank Puerto Rico appears to be financing the venture.

Demolition is currently being done by Knockdown Contracting Inc. The head of the demolition crew, at the site last week, said it’s expected construction of the new building will be complete in about a year and a half. He said between Williamsburg and the Tribeca/Hudson Square area, he’s being kept plenty busy lately knocking down old buildings for new developments.
