* “Fun for Village Kids On Barrow St. Pier,” a Page 1 article, reported: “The big unused pier at the foot of Barrow St. is officially opened as a recreation pier for Village children. Equipped with swings, slides and see-saws, the three-hundred foot structure has been recently repaired and re-painted and a new concrete floor laid. Surrounded by a high fence, the pier offers a safe and cool place to play on all summer long, Park Department officials said. Although the pier falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of Docks, it has been turned over for the summer to the Park Department. A band of unemployed musicians plays on the Barrow St. pier every Friday evening at 8:30 p.m. and space is provided for dancing.”
