Comedian Lily Tomlin, at near left, with Eileen Johnson, director of the Little Missionary’s Day Nursery, will be one of the honorees at this year’s Sara Curry Awards and Benefit fundraiser on Fri., May 13. The other honoree is Anne Weisberg, an author and expert in diversity and gender in the workplace. Little Missionary’s will also give a Rick Carman Award, named for the East Village activist and former Community Board 3 chairperson who recently died, who was on the school’s board for years. Tomlin visited the school, at 93 St. Mark’s Place, on April 17, and read the children a story. “They loved her,” said Johnson. “She used to live over B&H Dairy so we got her blintzes! She told us some wonderful stories about those days, we were cracking up. She is a very real person and very full of fun.” Judy Gold will be the event’s “resident comic and emcee.” “Little Mish” has operated on St. Mark’s Place since 1901, and the school has been fundraising every year since then to keep running. The benefit will take place 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Angel Orensantz Center, 172 Norfolk St. For tickets, go to https://www.lmdn.org/Tickets.html or call 212-777-9774.
