A documentary exposing glaring flaws in the John Kerry presidential campaign is set to premiere this week at the first-ever New York Television Festival.
“Inside the Bubble,” a revealing, and for Democrats, disheartening view into the failures of the Kerry 2004 presidential bid, follows the senator and five of his key staffers in the months leading to the November election. Director Steve Rosenbaum, who also directed the critically acclaimed documentary “7 Days in September” (2002), premieres his new doc Thursday, September 29 at the festival. The inaugural event is designed to showcase independent productions and provide them with a link to network and cable executives.
The NYTF, which launches September 28 at the Milk Studios on West 15th Street, is a pioneering effort presented in association with “TV Guide” to transform the formulaic nature of television programming. Over 25 television artists hoping to break into the television industry will have their pilots screened and scored by its close on Sunday.
Competing pilots, either 30 minutes or one hour in length, are entered in one of the following categories: comedy, drama, reality, documentary and animation. Topics run the gamut from enduring puberty in the animated comedy “The Back Brace” to working with an ex in the workplace in the dramedy “Bitter Sweet.” And in “Knock, Knock,” an independent reality pilot, host Fred Willard tours celebrities’ homes when they aren’t expecting company.
“Inside the Bubble” is the only documentary in the out of competition category. It is Rosenbaum’s hope that the documentary will shed light on the often-secretive world of politics. Interspersed with individual interviews and portraits, Rosenbaum hopes to capture the rollercoaster ride that is American politics and present a poignant story of passion, ambition and sacrifice.
