A prayer for peace procession and a Mass in honor of Our Lady of Fatima was held at St. Anthony’s Church on Sullivan and Houston Sts. last Thursday evening. On May 13, 1917, three children saw an apparition of the Virgin May above an oak sapling in Fatima, Portugal, who told them that peace would come if people turned to God and put aside their sinful ways. One of them, Lucia, became a Carmelite nun and is now in her 80s. The two other children died shortly after the apparitions, which occurred on the 13th of each month for almost a year. Pilgrims have long since taken anything that remained of the tree. In other news involving St. Anthony’s Church, Father Simeon, the church’s paster, reports there may be a new lead in the case of the church’s missing Baby Jesus, which was stolen from the church’s outdoor crèche on New Year’s Eve. Father Simeon said St. Anthony’s recently received a note from a woman in Wayne, N.J., alerting them to a cache of stolen Baby Jesuses in a lot. The church already has a replacement of the infant for the crèche, but Father Simeon said they will probably still call the Wayne police.
