Big Apple Bowl is ‘booked’ for 2010

On Sun., June 13, the New York Jets, the Big East Conference, National Football Foundation, College Hall of Fame and New York City Sports Commission held a press conference to announce that the Big Apple Bowl would be held in the planned West Side Stadium in the W. 30s. The Big Apple Bowl would bring 75,000 new visitors to the city annually while generating up to $8 million in fiscal impact, according to a press release. “We are proud to announce that the Big Apple Bowl is the first annual event that the New York Sports and Convention Center has booked,” said New York Jets President Jay Cross. “The Big Apple Bowl represents the type of event that will generate significant revenue for our city and bring thousands of new visitors to enjoy all that New York has to offer.” New York City has not hosted a college bowl game since the Gotham Bowl was played in Yankee Stadium in 1962.
