Police are searching for a suspect who allegedly stole a man’s bike in broad day light in Manhattan‘s Gramercy Park last week.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred on Wednesday, July 24, at around 3:40 p.m. in front of 180 Third Ave.
A 51-year-old male victim was standing at the location near his bike, which was locked on to a scaffolding pole, police said. An unidentified man walked over to the bike, whipped out a wrench and detached the bike from the pole.
The victim, catching the perp red-handed, attempted to stop the thief from taking his bike. The suspect responded by striking the victim with the wrench and then fled on the bike to parts unknown.
Law enforcement sources could not confirm whether the bike was motorized. The victim did not report any injuries, police said.
Police on Wednesday released surveillance photos of the suspect.
