While western Queens sustained widespread power outages that left 100,000 people in the dark last week, 390 West Village homes were without electric power Friday for a few hours because of what Con Edison called a “wire burnout” in the vicinity of Hudson and Bedford Sts. Two manholes exploded in quick succession and their covers shot into the air at Bedford and Downing Sts. at about 3 p.m. on Friday, Con Edison said.
