Village Care of New York held a Dec. 10 ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the grand opening of the organization’s new Wellness Center in Chelsea. The new facility, located at 220 W. 26th St., near Seventh Ave., was developed to meet the growing needs of older adults. The intention of the street-level facility is to fill a gap in care and services for older adults and those on Medicare by providing specialized therapies and approaches that take into account the specific needs of seniors. The center is composed of two programs. The Village Care of New York Wellness and Rehabilitation Center provides physical therapy and customized exercise programs that build and maintain overall strength, endurance, mobility and functionality, and offers state-of-the-art equipment and physical rehabilitation services to help in recovery. The adjoining Chelsea Senior Information Center offers older adults and their families a place to find answers about a wide range of issues and concerns impacting their lives. The staff of the information center offer personal attention and assistance and there is a variety of on-site resources, including a health library and free Internet access. This is Village Care’s second senior information center; the other is located at 51 Seventh Ave.
