Chin on the scene; Car in Gray’s Papaya smashup

City Councilmember Margaret Chin arrived to check on the scene of a three-alarm fire on Essex between Stanton and Rivington Sts. on Thursday evening Feb. 4, above left. Chin had been nearby at the Nightlife Forum at P.S. 20, at 166 Essex St. Meanwhile, at 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning, a car ran into the plate-glass window of Gray’s Papaya at Eighth St. and Sixth Ave., above right. According to a witness, three people were taken off on stretchers, though reportedly only with minor injuries.
