Class-size question is off ballot

A referendum on class size in New York City public schools — Question 6 — was bumped off the ballot by the Appellate Division on Oct. 20, meaning voters won’t have a chance to vote on it on Nov. 4. The court sided with Mayor Bloomberg, whose administration filed the appeal to remove the issue from the ballot. A coalition, New Yorkers for Smaller Class Size, whose leaders include P.S. 41 parent Leonie Haimson, collected 115,000 signatures to get the issue on the ballot. The Bloomberg administration argued that the class-size question would distract voters from the nonpartisan elections issue, Question 3 on the ballot.
