Creativity and history mingle at bar and on Bowery
Artist J. Knox posed beside a mural, above, that she was working on earlier this year on the outside of the Mars Bar, at First St. and Second Ave. She grew up in the neighborhood. Not far away from the Mars Bar, Eric Ferrara can frequently be found leading walking tours of the Bowery. The executive director of the Lower East Side History Project, Ferrara recently came out with a new book, “The Bowery: A History of Grit, Graft and Grandeur” (The History Press, $16.99).
