Mayor Mike Bloomberg kicked off the 17th Annual New York Cares Coat Drive last week at the Bowery Mission. The effort will collect thousands of “gently-used” adult and children’s coats during December and distribute them to needy New Yorkers at homeless shelters, agencies serving seniors and community organizations. December will see New York Cares collect and distribute the millionth coat since the drive’s start in 1989. Coats can be donated at police precincts, Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, the Port Authority and additional drop-off spots listed online at www.nycares.org.
