Judy Seigel, a Morton St. resident, said she was recently alarmed when, while walking by a new sushi restaurant being readied for opening at Cornelia and Bleecker Sts., she noticed a wooden “pagoda”-like awning, as she described it, jutting out several feet over the sidewalk. More than a mere canvas awning, it is a permanent structure. Seigel said the awning had been built extremely quickly, in a matter of just a day or two. The Department of Buildings said it had issued a violation for the awning.
