An upcoming show in Court TV’s “The Wrong Man” series scheduled for Dec. 14 at 10 p.m. will focus on a homicide that occurred on W. 13th St. in the Village in 1991. The segment will investigate whether Fernando Bermudez was wrongly convicted and sentenced in the murder of Raymond Blount. The murder occurred after Blount and others had left the nearby Marc Ballroom on Union Square West after a fight at a concert in the club. Bermudez had been driving around in the area. Articles by former Villager reporter Claude Solnik, who wrote about the murder and who feels Bermudez is innocent, will likely be shown during the segment. According to Solnik, five young witnesses initially identified Bermudez as the suspect, then later recanted their stories, but the authorities did not take this into account in finding Bermudez guilty. Bermudez has spent 14 years in jail. The case has been reopened.
